On January 15th, the Garden Club met at Mountain View Community Garden to host a presentation given by Connie Moore, Master Beekeeper. She brought an observation hive with live honey bees and a queen. Her presentation included the different roles of each hive member: drones, queen and workers. Everyone got a laugh from discovering all the workers are female! She also explained how and why honey is produced and why bees are important as pollinators. We learned that bees are amazing flyers, have a tremendous sense of smell and are incredible communicators. Connie concluded with a tasting of local raw honey varietals that included Desert Cactus, Wildflower and Cats Claw.
Definitely a buzzworthy event!
