- COVID UPDATE: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in accordance with state and local guidelines, we have moved most of our events onto a Zoom Platform. Once we believe it is appropriate, we will phase in activities as we deem them to be safe.
MVWC offers our members dozens of regularly scheduled group activities, a monthly event or luncheon held at local restaurants, and an opportunity to make a difference in our community through our charitable service projects.
We offer many activity groups making it easy to find one (or two or three) that match your interests. Groups meet during the day and the evening. They include book clubs, bunco groups, bridge groups and other game groups. There are groups for finding new recipes, gourmet cooking, gardening, restaurant adventures, movie, museum and theater outings, opera buffs, needlework, quilting, walking, investments, and wine tasting. These small groups of people with similar interests are a great way to make new friends and while doing something everyone enjoys.
Monthly events are an opportunity to meet with a larger group of members. They are held on the second Thursday of the month from September to May, at different restaurants and venues. Guests, accompanied by a member, are welcome. Programs frequently include speakers on topics of interest or demonstrations by local experts.
Our annual February luncheon and auction is our major fundraiser benefiting the Special Projects Grant Program. The event begins with a lively morning of bidding on an array of donated items. This can be anything from a week at a vacation home, an overflowing gift basket, or a homemade pie. Everyone is invited to bring family and friends as guests. Although there are no volunteer requirements of MVWC members, many enjoy serving on the planning committee of this important event by soliciting donations, preparing gift baskets, assisting with the organization of the luncheon program or preparing homemade baked goods.
