In December, Matinee Friends attended two wonderful concerts. First was “Let Your Spirit Sparkle” by the Phoenix Gay Men’s Chorus on Dec. 14. Despite the problems with finding parking and encountering a long line to get through security, we were all very glad we persevered. The chorus of 141 men had a powerful sound, whether they belted it out or toned it way down to almost a whisper. We were very impressed with their singing talents. Some of the songs were accompanied by a very entertaining dance troupe. And the small group, Canyon Echoes, sang so beautifully a capella. It was an afternoon we all enjoyed very much.
On December 21 we traveled just a small distance to the nearby All Saints Lutheran Church to hear the ProMusica Arizona Chorale & Orchestra’s program “Winter Wonderland”. The only challenge there was the steep ascent from the parking lot to the church. This Concert was a blend of beloved classics, Spirited favorites, and moments of quiet reflection, all to celebrate the season.
This was a special afternoon of music.
