The Museum and Special Events group conducted a docent-guided tour of the Arizona Biltmore Hotel. It was an amazing experience. The Biltmore’s architectural structure has a strong Frank Lloyd Wright influence with special patented block design and gold ceilings. We toured the amazing grounds, the beautiful gardens, and special rooms that were occupied by big stars, banquet facilities, lounges, pools, bridges, and beautiful views from a variety of different areas around the hotel. A note on some of the history of this iconic hotel is as follows. On February 23, 1929, the Arizona Biltmore opened in grand fashion. There were over 600 invitations sent out, with the thought that only a few hundred would be in attendance. However, it seemed no one wanted to be left out. The one-day planned Grand Opening event turned into three days of grand opening celebrations in order to accommodate all the people requesting to attend. From that day forward, the Arizona Biltmore has been a private retreat for some very influential people, such as US Presidents, Dignitaries, Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Stevie Nicks, socialites, sports teams, etc. This was an exceptional outing, along with legendary history.
