THE MEXICANO Restaurant, Tatum and Cactus
A lively setting with loud Mariachi music prevailed in the busy restaurant even though it was after 1pm. The group voted to sit outside where conversation would be possible. Patio is huge with good shade and fans with a built-in misting system. This made the hot dry day at least tolerable though it was still pretty toasty outside.
The Day of the Dead plates were very amusing. Cloth napkinsmwere a nice touch. This is no street taco food truck; this place has Class! The menu is the basic meats to be put in either a taco or burrito but extensive with fish choices and even a lamb taco. Joanne G had made the restaurant suggestion having already been there a few times. She was able to make some menu suggestions along with ordering the Guacamole to share.
I had the 3 tacos, which was a mix/match: One Al Pastor and two lamb tacos were large portions and hubby enjoyed a late lunch with the take-home. ($15 with no beans or rice.)
Our server Jose was fun and had no qualms about doing separate checks. Food service was spotty with each person’s meal delivered at a different time and probably over a 30-minute period, so low marks there from our gang.
With the big lag time between ordering drinks, then appetizers and main meal, I wonder if many restaurants seem to be pushing drinks to get the total tab increased?
Lin’s Nachos were huge, and the complimentary chips and salsa were crispy with smoky salsa that was nicely spiced without being overly hot. Lunch was easily in the $20 range without any alcohol.
Overall score was 21 out of the possible 55… so just below the halfway mark due to the ambiance and slow service.
