Our guest speaker is the Honorable Kimberly Yee, Arizona State Treasurer!
Born and raised in Arizona, Treasurer Kimberly Yee is the first Asian American elected to a statewide office in Arizona’s history. She is also the first Chinese American woman to win a major statewide office in the history of the United States. In 2010, she became the first Asian American woman elected to the Arizona Legislature and served for eight years in the House and Senate. Kimberly served as Senate Majority Leader and became the second woman elected to this position in Arizona’s history, following U.S. Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, who served in the position in 1973, forty-four years earlier.
Yee traces her ancestry to Taishan, Guang-dong. She attended Greenway High School in Phoenix, where she was a student journalist in the early 1990s. Yee is a graduate of Pepperdine University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a bachelor’s degree in English. She also holds a master’s degree in public administration from Arizona State University’s School of Public Affairs and was the recipient of the honored Scholar-Citizen Award.
Prior to elected office, she worked in the administrations of two past governors and in the administration of former State Treasurer Dean Martin. Kimberly comes from a family line of small business owners.
