The Noble Grapes is made up of couples and single members and we have monthly tastings from September through May. Group members take turns hosting in their home, and the hostess chooses the theme. Each member is asked to bring a bottle of wine from the chosen theme and a dish to share. In October we had a blind tasting of red blends. It was a fun evening with surprising results. We had 9 bottles disguised in brown bags and scored each bottle at 1-5 stars. After everyone had tried all 9, we did a blind vote of our favorite. Two of the bottles (#5 & #6) turned out to be the exact same wine (Bogle Phantom), but they were scored quite differently. The leading to bottle #6 (Bogle Phantom) was declared the winner. That bottle had been decanted for 90 minutes prior to the tasting, which really seems to have made a difference. During October, we partnered with the Service Project group to collect toiletries for the DeColores Domestic Violence Shelter. Our December tasting has a theme of “Favorite Hostess Gift Wines.” Just in time for the holidays, we’ll try each other’s favorite wines to give and receive!
