On Thursday afternoon, Aug. 31, six Matinee Friends drove west to Peoria for an end-of-summer outing. We were out to have some laughs, eat a good meal, and find an escape from this endless summer heat. At the Arizona Broadway Theatre, we first enjoyed a delicious lunch. This started with five beautiful summer salads and one watermelon soup, then one of us had a wonderful salmon and the rest endeavored to eat an enormous serving of chicken parmesan over angel hair pasta. We did our best but every one of us took a lunchbox home; it made a lovely lunch the next day. This was followed by the hilarious musical, Disaster!”–a parody of some of the 70s disaster flicks which also incorporated the most unforgettable hit pop songs of the era. Siri- usXM Broadway host Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick created this wacky musical, with larger-than-life characters and snappy dialogue cleverly interwoven with more than two dozen songs. The cast was very impressive; they all had excellent voices and their acting hit all the required comical beats.
We drove home with “Hot Stuff” still filling our heads.
