Nine Matinee Friends journeyed to far north Scottsdale on Sunday, Nov. 13, to see “Play On”, presented by the Desert Foothills Theatre at the Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center. This farce was the story of a community theatre group trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from a snooty author who kept revising the script up to the last minute. Act I was a rehearsal of the dreadful show, Act II was the near disastrous dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance, in which anything that could go wrong, did. The first two acts were the necessary set-ups for the hilarious third. I laughed until my stomach hurt. We agreed that these actors did a great job of remembering when to do the same lines and staging so many different ways. No one made a mistake. Our group has had a good time trying out several different small theaters around the valley.
