On Sunday, Oct. 30, six intrepid Matinee Friends journeyed out to the Fountain Hills Theater, proving we are willing to travel far and wide for our theatrical experiences. We saw “Gaslight”,which we all greatly enjoyed. However, those of us who were expecting a stage version of the 1944 film starring Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotton and Charles Boyer were surprised to see something quite different. The play we saw existed first; the movie deviated in many respects but did keep the central idea of a man quietly trying to drive his wife insane. The acting was uniformly excellent, though the prize for best accent went to the Scotsman Detective Rough. We all were very impressed by the set, especially for a small community theater. The play was an exciting drama with mystery and even some comedic elements, leading to a very enjoyable afternoon at the theater.
