On Saturday afternoon, December 14, five Matinee Friends took a very short trip to All Saints Lutheran Church on 7th St. to see ProMusica Arizona’s Christmas
concert. ProMusica is the valley’s only chorale with orchestra and we are so lucky that one of their performance venues is so close to us. For the first number a handbell choir joined the fun. We were invited to sing along with a few of the familiar carols.
The second half of the program included a couple of unfamiliar and very fun numbers. The “Countdown to Christmas” about this hectic time of year was performed to the tune of “Babes in Toyland” and had us laughing. The finale was a “Musicological Journey through The Twelve Days of Christmas” by Craig Courtney, in which each of the Days was sung in the style of a different musical period. My favorite was day 8 to Wagner’s “The Ride of the Valkyries”. If you are a music lover I urge you to look this up on YouTube.
This concert was a lovely way to celebrate the season. We plan to attend more concerts by this wonderful and very talented group.
