On January 11th, the Glendale Historical Society provided the MVWC Garden Group with a tour of the Manistee Ranch. There were three docents that provided the group with a plethora of historical information.
The Historic Manistee Ranch was built by Herbert W. Hamilton in 1897 as a home for his family. This house and ranch is better known as the residence of Louis M. Sands, who purchased the property in 1907 and named the home Manistee Ranch after his hometown in Michigan. The property consists of the main house, a garage, an office building, a field with farming and ranching exhibits and a date orchard. There are many collections of artifacts of the Glendale provenance, maps, photographs, newspapers, directories, school and census records, and manuscripts throughout the home. We all enjoyed this tour and have received positive comments!
