The Moon Valley Women’s Club was recognized for its service to the community by the De Colores Domestic Violence Shelter’s Director, Gerardo Pena, during their annual volunteer recognition luncheon on February 24th. One of our Members was presented a Volunteer of the Year Certificate for her leadership of our service project at the shelter. Additionally, the MVWC was presented with the Organization of the Year Award.
Our service project at the shelter last year provided more than 50 shoeboxes of women’s hygiene and beauty products given to every new arrival at the shelter. Clients often leave home with only what they are wearing and these products are so appreciated. The project also provides every client and their children transitioning into family apartments at the shelter, all of their needed kitchen supplies including dishes and cooking utensils, bedding and linen, as well as other household necessities that make it possible for them to start their life anew.
