Kathy A and Karen Z hosted the Classy Cooks’ March luncheon. Everyone was asked to make a recipe that had been passed down through their family or that was culturally significant to them. The hostesses, both Irish, offered corned beef and libations. Joan D grew up in an Italian household and brought Caprese salad. Audrey S made Noodle Kugel based upon her Jewish heritage. Margy S’s family owned an orchard and made homemade applesauce. Connie P’s family always had a large garden and fresh vegetables at their meals. She made creamed turnips, a dish many had never eaten but all found delicious. Fran S added to our vegetable dishes, an Irish corned beef, with cooked cabbage. Lin F, known to be a great baker, learned this from her mother and brought soda bread. Lora S made twice baked potatoes. In her family, this was the way they always transformed the potato from plain to special for guests and holidays. Cheryl W provided dessert, Strawberry Fool, a strawberry parfait she traditionally serves her family. In sum, it was an afternoon of great food, good friends, and a lot of fun.
