On Saturday, April 20th, the Classy Cooks hosted their annual charity dinner at the beautiful mountaintop home of Margy and Frank S. The raffle winners for the event were Sue K and her husband Paul, and Julie M, who brought fellow member Jackie S. The raffle raised $550 for the MVWC Service Project.
The event scene was a 1950’s Diner and members and spouses did not disappoint. There were poodle skirts, bobby socks, peddle pushers, varsity jackets, and Armando F even wore a Fonzie wig. We were entertained by guest DJ and local Channel 5 weatherman, Paul Horton, and his trusty assistant, Blake Shrey. They got everyone up to do the Twist and even had a hula hoop contest. The theme of “Let the Good Times Roll” lasted throughout the beautiful evening.
The 50’s Diner theme was carried through to dinner as well. The evening started out with Connie P crafting a Screwdriver cocktail for everyone and appetizers of Deviled Eggs, Ham Balls, and Olive Stuffed Celery. We sat down to dinner that started with an authentic Sunshine Jello Salad served on lettuce. Followed by homemade meatloaf and gravy, mashed potatoes, corn casserole, and glazed carrots served in old-fashioned TV dinner tins. Dessert was a delicious treat of Pineapple Upside Down Cake and Apple Crisp Pie. You can’t get more authentic than that!
We’d like to thank our Classy Cooks for all their hard work and tremendous culinary skills for making this another successful event.
